Let's just say, they were all busy. End of School, Beginning of Summer, YSA Leadership conference, Beach parties, Corn Roast, Lake Havasu, Closing of the Car Wash, spending time in the ER & Hospital, Road work on our street to fix a water leek, Still walking in the wetlands, our very favorite restaurant closed:(, and on and on it goes.

Where did April go? Or HOLY COW what an April.

The month of April has truly been a busy one. What the heck! It went by so very fast. There was General Conference, which is always a treat, then, Bryan turned 16, and got his drivers license. Went to the Temple several times, weddings, more painters at our house, singles ward activities, road rally, High priest social, BYU Woman's Conference, Trip to Utah, Vanessa had another birthday, friendship Amish bread all over the kitchen, planning another wedding for Katie & Jake. Easter, garden planting, more rain, more wind, some sunshine. Young Men went hiking, with excitement to boot.
And on and on and on....... yikes, I know I have left out so much. But this is how life is going now. Faster, more happenings, bigger events, lots of stuff going on. How do we even keep up anymore? We enjoyed a day at the Getty Center Museum which had some really beautiful gardens.
The days of simplicity are gone. Too much to do, not enough time, gotta cut some stuff out, but what? It ALL seems to be important. Prioritize: to arrange items in order of priority. WOW! items. Humm. That is where the LIST comes in that I am so famous for. LOL "Get er' done".

Also Enjoyed the Road Rally with the Singles it was a Treasure Hunt with home made root beer, yummy.

The end of March was a awesome trip to Scottsdale, AZ. to play golf, yes, golf, I learned, that even in golf you have to do yard work. What the heck. I did get out of the bunker though.

Nothing but fun. Never thought I would be doing this. Never say never. Had a great time.

Yep, I guess everyone has a chance in the sand. Why else would they be on a golf course?

Enjoyed the beginning of Spring. I hope! I am ready for the sun shine, here in SO. California too.

Guess these guys, have a challenge now, I am going to get really good. Learn all I can, and smash that beast!

Pool side was of course fun too. To just relax by the pool. What a treat.
Can't wait to do it again.

Now if the weather would just warm up, we can get the boat out and enjoy some more Spring, and Summer events. Looking forward to it all.

Only washed a few balls, not to bad, for a beginner. I will get it. Look out guys, I may show you up someday.

What's with the smug look Kenny? Afraid? You should be, I am on a roll.

Here it is March 2010, so much has been happening this month all ready. We haven't taken any trips, but, alot of excitement around here has been happening for the past few weeks. Messes made, messes cleaned up, & lots of work done & of course one thing always leads to another and so it goes.

We began the month with painters, in and around inside the living room, entry, dinning, stairs, halls, front door outside, lots of windows and doors. Strong fumes, for a few days, and a lot of mess. BUT.....

We had a great crew, on the job. (Matt Dean Painting, Inc.)

I would definitely have them again, and recommend them.

Oh my goodness, These projects always take so much work and time, and make it almost unbearable for a bit, until it's finally finished.

.

Then had the marble/granite master bathroom diamond sanded down and polished, upon doing so the glass shower wall had to be removed and restored afterward. What a job that was, so yet another crew came in for that. Having them here, I then decided to grind down and polish the kitchen counters granite as well.

We had a very kind friend and Bishop of our singles ward, repair our stove ignition mechanize that hasn't worked for years.

While the other Romberg Family (Kevin Romberg's) were on their trip for 5 days, and away, I got Ken to agree to help me with another bathroom in need of new flooring and so we began what I thought would be a quick and easy job, having done much tiling before together.

As it turned out the floor base needed to be scraped down as there was damage and that included tearing out the toilet, shower doors, and removing and sanding & painting the vanity drawers and doors. These are the before photo's of the floor, vanity, shower, toilet.

Here is Ken once again on his knee's. (Probably praying I am not conjuring up another project) I am such a slave driver.

It turned out extremely nice, for 2 people that are not officially trained in the field!

IT'S BEEN 15 YEARS IN THIS HOUSE! STILL LOVING IT BUT OWNING A HOME MEANS CONSTANT UPKEEP!

Knowing we had been in the house 15 years, as of Dec. 2009, we got to the fact that our water heater might be in need of a change so upon checking that we determined that the tag on it said, it was 20 years old, and opted to get a plumber out to help us decide what to do. Yes, a new water heater system was in bad need. Boy it's good to know people who do good things.

So "TWANDA" aka: Valerie gets started, as most of my family know I am really good at tearing things up, sometimes only to find a pro. is needed to fix my messes.

The old water heater was just on the edge of getting ready to blow. Very rusted out. This is one project we decided needed the expert in his field. SO......Yet another mess was made to clean up.

When they came to remove it, sure enough it was almost rusted clean through.

Oh my goodness what a mess that could have been if it had broken. LOTS! of water would have gone......throughout the whole garage, yikes.

So we put in 2 new tank-less systems, and had to order a water softener to be installed (at a later date) when it arrives.

Of course as I said, one thing leads to another, and a new larger, gas line was in need of installation for this particular system for this house.

I am so tired just thinking about the last 3 weeks, we have been in quite a clear it out, clean it up mode.
Spring cleaning around here has begun early, and taken on a whole new meaning and hopefully will end soon. This will be the beginning of a year we won't soon forget.

Tomorrow, March 13th we will host the Kari Rall/ David Lawrence "Open House" for a newly sealed couple in our Singles Ward, where else here at our home. READY SET GO! After Sat. we will have the Goldenwest Ward Singles at our home for FHE, & St. Pat's Day Potluck.

THEN we will be ready for a VACATION!!! ANYWHERE!!!

The month of March I have noticed is only 12 days in what will I do with the last few weeks of March?
Don't worry I will think of something! he he he (shhhh! don't tell Ken)

Everyone just wants to have fun, and we did. Glamis was amazing this holiday, if you were not able to come this time, maybe next trip. I think I speak for all, when I say, Quad, Rhino, Razor, Trailer, Motor Home, Tent's, Rails or just relaxing in the sun we had it all and lots of good food, family, friends. The end of January & beginning of February were eventful in the Kenneth Romberg family, as we traveled to Utah and had some snow fun, visits with family and a very important event for Rylie Jean Ortt. She was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Awesome Rylie, we are so proud of you.

I always thought that this blog thing was a bad idea, but....here I am again.
What the heck happened to the end of 2009? I lost a few Holiday's along the way and now it's FEBRUARY, the ground hog has seen his shadow, and I am a month behind again. What is up with that? I have added a few new photo's on a new Picasa Album, randomly but....having said that. Let me try to catch up, slowly. I will get back to this blog thing eventually. Lots going on especially with the Romberg Family's. Right now I am enjoying being with Family's in Utah. Snow, skiing, watching grandchildren, Rylie's getting baptised, Bryan's playing basketball, Zackary is growing to fast, and Layla talks ALOT! Had an Awesome time at Glamis for Halloween 09' couldn't have ordered better weather. It was amazing. Glad all who were able to go this year had fun. All went well, everyone had a great time, and great riding. Well except for a couple of minor, situations, time will heal. Ray's bike wasn't running but we will get him all fixed up for the next trip. All in all it was a super week-end. Just a few photo's for the trip. Enjoy, was good to be with you all. Time Square a very busy area of New York

What more can one say?
While in New York we went to see Wicked on Broadway & to see "Hair" the next night. They were great.

Very tall buildings

Rockefeller Center Where the famous crowd-delighter tree has stood for over 75 years, and the city's most celebrated tradition of lacing your skates and swirling away at The Ice Skating Rink. Those of course were not there yet, but they are getting ready.

Saw the Statue of Liberty, what a site, and while the ship passed, everyone broke out in song "God Bless America" It was very touching.

While in New York we also saw many sites, toured The World Financial Center, the "Top of the Rock" building where we were able to go to the roof and see the whole city. Amazing site, and it was a wonderful clear day. This is where we saw, Rockefeller Center , the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Brooklyn Bridge and Central Park just to name a few.

We walked to St. Patrick's Cathedral, and saw the beautiful architecture of that gothic-style Catholic Cathedral, quite the story behind this monument.

Our trip began, and was so full, my photo album holds over 1800 pictures, I will share just a few, we had a wonderful time, and enjoyed so much, of our country.

Before we could set sail, we had to have our safety drill. Boy I hope we don't have to use these things.

Fall Foliage across the States

Portland, Maine, we walked about 4 short blocks to get the trolley, and toured the Old Port, another lighthouse lovers cruise. Land and sea were the perks of this day. As well as the awesome Lobster lunch, Peaks Island where we noticed the leaves beginning to change and many very friendly people.

When we were in Halifax, Nova Scotia we rented cars and drove to Lunenburg, NS, and Mahone Bay. Had a wonderful seafood lunch and enjoyed Peggy's Cove Light house.
This lighthouse and village are a photographer's paradise, it was really beautiful. The weather for most of the trip was raining with a chance of sunshine. We experienced both.

Beautiful fall foliage was to be seen along the way, Portland, Maine, we walked about 4 short blocks to get the trolley, and toured the Old Port, another lighthouse lovers cruise.

This is one way to get out of the rain!

While we were in St. John, New Brunswick we learned a lot about the Bay of Funday, the shores of the bay tell the story of the power of the tides. These great waters have an impact on the shores and on those that live between them. I left my footprints on the ocean floor. It was amazing. There was a lot to visit in this area, and going into the caves, was an experience of a lifetime.

Also visiting the Reversing Falls, phenomenon of the tremendous rise and fall of the tides. AMAZING....

Boston Duck Tour

While in Boston, Massachusetts we took a "Duck Tours" which is a W.W. II style amphibious landing vehicle. You journey on land and then, a dramatic "Splashdown" into the bay. Lot's of sights to see here. We enjoyed the historical tidbits as well as the entertaining guide, and lots of "quacking". LaRae even won "Boston Beans" for the correct answer to one of his questions.!

We had a few formal nights on the Ship, and some casual, we all mostly ate every meal together in the dining room, and who should be sitting at the table just next to us? Well, what could be better, Michael, Laurie & Ben Ballam.

I have taken so many more photo's than this blog. I will put them in a picasa album for family to pull from if you wish. Enjoyed being with you all. Let's do it again real soon.

So the end has come and we are now home.

Enjoyed a most wonderful trip, we especially want to thank Mom for making it possible. Yet more memories to hold.

The ship at Sea was pretty smooth Sailing and really didn't feel much movement, so no sea sickness.

This experience with Michael Ballam, his wife Laurie, and son Ben were yet another wonderful time, we will always treasure.

On Sunday we had our own Sacrament meeting with speaker: Michael Ballam, it was wonderful he spoke about; trials, challenges, and how we learn from them. How the spirit can leave us so quickly if we are not careful, how our nation was founded on "In God we Trust" it was a very spiritual meeting. One we will not forget.

The past couple of months have been a blur.(Guess I need my eyes checked again).
April began with Ken having his Gallbladder out. Not recommended! But was necessary. Then on to recovery. I was able to leave at the end of April to enjoy Women's Conference, at BYU with my sisters. That is always a highlight of the year. Also, awaiting the arrival of our newest grand-baby, Zachary Roy Romberg arrived a little late, but, healthy, and beautiful. That began the Month of May...... Now, Birthday's birthday's and more birthday's Bryan, turned 15 in April, Vanessa turned ___! Yeah, what-ever right V? Logan sang in a Great Performance at the Marriott Center with thousands of participants, and guests, he also played some awesome football. Dane turned 11. Another new baby born into the Bishop side of the family, Abbigail Ann Kelley, welcome to you little one. Ema, performed in the Wizard of Oz play our Stake put on. She was a poppy, and a jitter-bug. (check out deleted scenes if that doesn't make sense) Cute, cute, cute. Was able to go to Lake Havasu with a couple of friends, (yes kids we do have some). Was a great trip. Ken even skied after 5 weeks out of surgery, Whooo Hoooo! Ella turned 4 years old. She is a little talker, and she is looking forward to her birthday celebration with her sister Abby who will turn 2, this upcoming May 25th. The day after Ken' on May 24th he hits his "53rd" eeeeekkkkk. Ken and I went to the Temple on our "33rd" wedding anniversary, May 21, and wished Kari a happy birthday out loud since we share that day. Rylie will turn 8 the 29th of May, and be able to get baptized. Looking forward to that. Kaitlyn was advanced to Level 6 in gymnastics and shows off an awesome, beam routine. A very dear friend of ours passed away, while serving on her mission with her husband in Cove Fort, Utah. She was Clayton's seminary teacher, and Ema's Sunday School teacher. She will be missed. Tomorrow morning we head off again to Utah, Parowan this time, to do the Memorial Day clean up activity, and pick up LaRae who has been there enjoying some time with friends and family. That pretty well sums up the past two months, wow, how time fly's. I know I have missed a few birthday's along the way. But.... each one of you get a shout out, when your birthday comes along, because my perpetual calendar in the kitchen has your name listed, and as I go about the day's I'll shout out HAPPY BIRTHDAY ______! So, just know you are not forgotten. Tyson, Darren, Craig, Linda, Sarah V., Sara K., Owen, Tad, Cyndi, Jonas, Karissa, Allison, & if I missed you! YOU TOO!
The single's ward keeps us busy ALL THE TIME. We Love It! Wish we were able to spend more time with each of our Grand-children and all their activities, but distance and time make it difficult. Thanks to the modern Tech. we are able to talk, view pictures, and share memories, that in days past took weeks, months, and even years to do. Love every minute we get to hear from you all, by facebook, blogs, e-mails, cell phones, ect..... Now off to the next events! Leaving spring, enter summer.

Enjoyed a fun filled full bus load of crazy kids, as we drove off to Hollywood to see some sites. Turns out there were several hundred people protesting something, and blocked off lots of our stops along the way but we enjoyed the ride and dancing on the bus, and just being together. I almost got taken away but was able to escape, the pirate and his evil, thievery.

If not for my sweetheart of A Valentine, The following activities would not have a been possible, oh how we enjoy all of our trips and fun together. Think he took the easy way out? NOT a chance. But because of the big heart of a guy he is he chose to enjoy the rest of his life here upon this earth doing the things he loves and knows his family loves too. It has been 8 years since his surgery. And I think he is most grateful he did. Enjoying the following has truly been a huge rainbow of a deal.

Life at Walden Pond

As I attended the Ward Conference today in our Home Ward, and listened to the Relief Society lesson, I was reminded that my goal for the year is holding nicely. Simple. calm, slow down. Those were my goals for 2009, so far, the last week of the month, and I feel a great pleasure in knowing I am still reminded of this very difficult goal in my life. I am a very Do do do person, hardly taking a moment to stop and "smell the roses" so to speak, but as the lesson pointed out, by Elder L. Tom Perry, to earnestly seek ways to simplify our lives, I was reminded it's a goal, that is totally attainable. The wonderful poet Robert Browning's words,
"The best is yet to be" sticks in my mind, and I continue to pause, reflect and heal, as Henry David Thoreau did at Walden Pond many many years ago. The necessities of life are so simple, and very easy to obtain, I will continue, to obey the commandments, that will help me to accomplish is goal.

ENJOYED A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS

All the kids came home. what a wonderful surprise some left. We all enjoyed the excitement of the season, with the old traditions, and some new ones. It was great having all home again with their families. I didn't get Christmas Cards out, I didn't get some gifts sent as I normally do, I didn't fix the candies of the past, (but I did try) I didn't buy Kenneth a big expensive gift, I didn't even wear the Santa hat on Christmas Day! BUT.... I along with Ken did host many Christmas Dinners serving over 300+ people, lost count, I(we) did read many Cards of dear friends and family, I(we) did read the account of the babe born in a manger, I (we) did have the most spiritual end to 2008 as you could imagine. I am forever changed with the happenings of the many events which took place. We are so very thankful for all who have taught us to live in the moment, to strive to become more like our Savior and to be grateful for what we do have. We love our family, and would do anything for any one of them. We love our calling in the Church, to serve the Young Single Adults is so wonderful. The new year will take on a whole new meaning, as we finished this year with a very sorrowful ending, that of one of our beloved children. Our dear baby Jack. We send our most heartfelt emotions out to our dear niece Elizabeth and her very sweet family, Adam, and Megan. We love you all, we are here for you, and we will continue to always pray for ways to continue to be faithful for the day we will all be together again, Forever. Regardless of what happens our salvation is secure, if we remain faithful. That is our goal for 2009. Happy New Year to one and all.

Had a great adventure, this year out at the Glamis Dunes. Was enjoyed by all, then we went to Colorado, for Kaitlyn's Gymnastic State Championship, SHE WAS AWESOME!!! Back home to prepare for a few Parties, The State High Council, The Singles Ward, and our Home Ward High Priest Christmas Dinners, all of which we decorated, and cooked, for over, approx. 200 people. Then our usual Linger Longer on Sunday. We wondered what day it was by the end of the week and what the heck just happened. On to trying to finish the decorating around the house, cleaning the garage, my bedroom, decorate for the association street, ect.......

By the way: A BIG THANKS goes out to Kevin, Brandi and their Children for all their help with EVERYTHING WE ASK.

They must have been raised by some pretty darn good parents.......

This is how we decorate for Halloween, using the real thing is as impressive as it gets. This guys web was awesome, just wish the sun was in the right direction to see it. The glow on it was so cool. And spiders are hairy, and have 8 legs, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

We will grout later, we have to put the washer and dryer back in for a few days. Family coming home to visit. So project is taking longer than we expected.
Ken and I worked hard on the wash room tile. We had a few things get in the way of finishing the project when we had hoped but..... we won't go there. Anyway it is done. Looks, great, and Yes, I would do it again, but not right away.

We went to Glamis for Halloween Week-end, just needed a break for a couple days. Had a great time, and hardly sat at all. The bikes were going all the time, it was a blast as usual. No incidences, no bike break downs. All was good. Came home to help with the last little bits of Prop. 8. so happy to say, the hard word payed off. YES on 8! We won the battle this time, but everyone keep on your toes, the war has only begun. Thanks to all for there prayers, and votes.

Our lives are so very busy, as most are these days. I think this weekend we did it all. Enjoyed, every bit.
Beginnings are always fun, but do take alot of energy.

Enjoyed, football this weekend, you'll hear about from the Ortt,Romberg and Hansen Families. Heard about the great performance Kaitlyn had this last week-end. Did alot of shoping and ALOT of cooking for the R.S. Broadcast dinner in our Stake, that Ken of course was a part of. Clayton & Kristie are getting settled. Enjoyed, our home ward Primary Program to hear the children sing. They did a wonderful job. Ken and I have been leaning toward a new vehicle to haul that big trailer that holds all the sand toys, the Suburban, just wasn't doing it anymore. So we finally found one that will pull it and the boat without problems. Of course the color, "White". Still working on that garage stuff. Soon to be out! Goal,end of the year. Countdown is on. Sending a photo of tired Ken, and the new Truck, background is that huge trailer it will haul.

Banana Cake

Melt 1 cup butter, add 1 cup hot water and 3 very ripe banana's.
Mix in 2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix all together with a wire wisk, until creamy.
Pour out onto a un-greased cookie sheet with sides of course.
Bake @ 350 degrees for 22-25 min. take out and let cool.

Frosting:

1 8 oz.pkg. cream cheese softened
2 Tablespoons butter
2 cups powdered sugar
Mix all above with stand or hand mixer until creamed together.
I like to make my frosting while the cake is baking then put it in fridge. It is easier to frost the cake after. Your choice. Waa Laa !!!! serve and enjoy!!!

I have really been a slacker. guess, blogging really isn't my thing. Anyway, I was just mentioning to one of my children, I really don't need to blog because they are all doing it for me. Let see, I could tell you, Ken and I are busy with the Singles Ward everyday of the week it seems. But that would be a little boring. I could tell you, I am still serving in the Stake as well, as our Singles Ward Calling, that I really call a mission. I could say, we have traveled, to Utah to witness the marriage of daughter #1 and have become, grandparents to yet 4 more, and great-grandparents to one. I could tell you I went to Colorado to see Kaitlyn get baptized, and enjoyed the time there with #2 daughter. I could tell you Kevin #1 son and his wife had a wonderful Anniversary time together, and I was able to help out with their 4 children. I could tell you Ken and I went to Utah again to help #4 son and his wife settle into their new Condo they just purchased, and are so very excited about. BUT.... all of these things you hear from each of them so..... I will just add, it's good to be involved in all of their activities.

Even though the sun couldn't get through the smoke, we still carried on having a great vacation. The boat ran well, and we all enjoyed riding and getting pulled behind it. It is a beautiful boat gliding in the water, and the ride is smooth and very comfortable. May more trips will be enjoyed. All had a great time, and are ready to do it again.

Ken did try the last day to wakeboard, and finally got the hang of it. I of course didn't have the camera on board . Which is a shock in itself. However , I did have an eye witness, Bryan was with us and saw his grandpa wake board at yes, age: 51 never to old to teach an old dog new tricks.

I think my best guess would be to stay with what I know. I can still ski long distance, and it is a completely different sport than wakeboarding. Some of us do this some do the other, some don't do either one. It's all good.

Guess it's about time I did a little blogging. Just trying to catch up on things. I've always known after a vacation, you need a vacation. So, let's just plan another one.
Anyway, Clear Lake was of course a great summer boating trip once again, after all these years, we still enjoy the lovely green water. This year we had to deal with the fires up north that were burning as we were trying to enjoy our trip. The first week wasn't as bad, but week two, the sun couldn't hardly come through because of the smoke. One day was spent at Blue Lakes. Another we took a drive to the North shore and spent some time at the Ocean, then had lunch in Fort Bragg, and then drove up to some of the most scenic redwoods. Ken even drove the Suburban through the big Chandler Tree. After spending some really hot days sitting on the lawn with the sprinkler going is real cooling. Also it helped to tame down the bugs. Oh the joys of camping.

Kevin, Brandi, Kids, and some cousins, left for Lake Perris today, meeting up with the YM Pres. for an activity. Another "trial run" for the boat, before the big summer vacation. The bugs are working their way out. Lake Perris is the destination today.

was touched to see so many American Flags flying on the beautiful
grounds in Westminster Memorial Park. It was a really nice day.

Was a great Mother's Day today. Ken and I went to our YSA ward as we do every Sunday, but today was a little different since we were in a Singles Ward. We enjoy every minute of our Service to this Young Single Adult Ward. It is exhausting some weeks but, we are exhausted in the service to our Heavenly Father. That makes it all worth while. I heard from each of our children today for Mothers Day and they are all doing well, I also spoke to my mother. She isn't feeling to well but she wakes up each morning, to a new day. Exciting, happenings in our lives lately? Well Ken and I are having fun also........

Enjoyed the Olympic Training Center

Went to the Olympic Training center for a tour today, was really fun. It is amazing the athlete's there and what they go through to be the best of the best. Enjoyed spending time in CO. with the Hansen Family, we fit alot in, so we are beat. Back home at sea level again, wow what climate changes we have been through. Loved the visit. Enjoyed all the sites.

Went to watch Bailey's baseball game on Sat. it was fun, but really hot sitting in the sun. I noticed all the people from here in CO. were loving the temp. It was fun. Matthew got into the action also, as he hit the ball and would run in a circle outside the field.

Our trip to Colorado Springs

Today we went to Garden of the Gods, they are beautiful rock formations created by, well you guess! It was amazing, there were some deer across the way grazing in the lush green meadow. Despite the snow storm a couple days earlier the weather turned out to be a lovely day. The rock we are under is barley being balanced upon the other mountain rocks, which is a site to behold. Manitou and Pikes Peak train ride. The train usually goes to the top of Pikes Peak which is 14,110 feet but because of the storm the days before we were 500 feet short of reaching the top then we had to go back down. It was an incredible journey. Great day, all in all. Chef Ken is now preparing dinner, and crazy Val is trying to learn this blog thing. I will get it! I have a great teacher. One that will finally sit with me and explain to the old lady what is going on.
